Do you love data visualization and interactive content? Are you a team player who likes solving problems? Do you want to join one of London’s hottest tech start-ups and be part of a talented and friendly team?
Flourish is an online tool for creating beautiful data graphics, presentations and other interactive content without coding. Launched in 2018, it is already being used by thousands of organizations all over the globe, from publishers to governments, agencies to corporates. In partnership with Google News Lab, we also work with many of the world’s leading news organizations, whose graphics are viewed millions of times every day.
We’re now seeking another developer to join our team to help make Flourish even better.
You’ll be spending time on things like:
- Developing new features
- Helping with finding and fixing bugs in the product
- Improving observability and monitoring of the live app
- Making the codebase more maintainable (for example, through refactoring and automated testing)
- Automating routine maintenance tasks
This role is mostly focused on the Flourish platform rather than the visualization templates, which are developed separately, but there is potential to contribute to those too.
You are a keen developer who enjoys working in a small team, and loves to learn new things. You care deeply about the quality of your work, and are thoughtful about how to improve both what you’re doing and how the team works together. You’re happy to adopt existing conventions of the code base.
Importantly, you’re enthusiastic about data visualisation and excited by Flourish and the opportunity to make it better. You’re a friendly colleague and you work well in a close-knit team.
You should have all these qualities:
An interest in data visualization
Happy to work independently
Great communication skills
Experience of using git
Good understanding of basic SQL (e.g. you know the difference between types of joins)
Be able to give feedback kindly and be happy to receive feedback
It would be an advantage to have:
Experience of shell scripting
Understanding of core AWS services (for example, IAM and EC2)
An interest in observability and alerting
Willingness to pair-program from time to time
An interest in (and pragmatic attitude to) automated testing
Experience of PostgreSQL in particular
If you’re not sure that you meet these requirements, please apply anyway! We are happy to consider recent graduates.
